STAT Success Cohort ยท Week 3

This week's CODE.

Week 3 turns from method to content. You have a new study approach from Week 2. Now the question is what you actually understand, what you do not, and which of the gaps are blocking you right now.

Week 3 theme
Foundation repair, selective.

In critical care, foundation repair happens after stabilization. You do not rebuild everything at once. You fix what is actively preventing the patient from getting better. The same is true here. You cannot relearn all of A&P 1 or chemistry this week. What you can do is identify the specific gaps that are blocking your current coursework and close them fast. Selective, not comprehensive.

The shift this week

Week 2 was about how you study. Week 3 is about what you understand.

Many students who are failing A&P do not just have a method problem. They also have accumulated gaps in foundational concepts that later material depends on. Action potentials depend on understanding ion gradients. Renal function depends on understanding osmosis. Muscle contraction depends on understanding protein structure. When the foundation is missing, no amount of studying the current topic will hold.

The goal this week is not to relearn everything. It is to find the specific foundation gaps that are blocking the material in front of you and selectively repair them.

C
Current state

Your Week 3 Current state audit opens with the Evaluate section on Week 2 commitments. Were you able to change the one method you said you would? Then the usual Current state check. Focus your answers this week on whether you are understanding the material, not just studying it.

O
Observe

Your team works through Jordan's case together. Jordan applied the Week 2 method changes and is studying differently now, but is hitting a wall because foundational concepts from A&P 1 are missing. Come prepared to think about which gaps might be affecting Jordan and which might be affecting you.

D
Decide

Your Week 3 decision plan will focus on one or two specific foundation gaps you need to repair. Not the full list. The most critical one or two that are blocking current material.

E
Evaluate

Next week's Current state audit will evaluate whether you actually closed the gap you committed to. Evaluate is also now a habit. By Week 3, honest reporting should feel more natural than it did in Week 2.

What you will do this week

What to expect from your live session

Same three-question structure your team used in Week 2, applied to Jordan. What do we think is happening for Jordan. What should Jordan stop doing. What should Jordan start doing.

This week, the discussion will tend toward specific foundational concepts. Listen for which concepts your teammates name. Some of those will be gaps for you too. Write them down as the team talks.

The work of Week 3 is triage, not repair

You cannot close every gap this week. You are not supposed to. The work of Week 3 is identifying which gaps matter most right now, and closing those first. A missed concept from A&P 1 that is not relevant to current material can stay missing for now. One that is actively blocking what you are studying this week cannot.

Your focus for the week

Identify one to two specific foundation concepts that are blocking current material. For each one, find a source (YouTube video, textbook chapter, tutoring session, office hours) and close the gap. That is the week's work.

Be specific. "I need to review A&P 1" is not a gap. "I do not understand how the sodium-potassium pump establishes the resting membrane potential" is a gap. Specificity is what makes foundation repair possible.

About the optional tool

The Foundation gap identifier in Lesson 4.4 is optional but worth your time this week specifically. It walks you through three questions about your current coursework and helps you surface gaps you may not realize you have. If you are unsure what your gaps are, start there.

Start here

Read Jordan's case (Lesson 4.2).

Then complete your Current state audit before the live session. If you have time, use the Foundation gap identifier before the session. It will make your team discussion sharper.
