BIO 304 · AI Honor Contract

I will do my own thinking in this course.

This is the agreement you sign before week one begins. It is short on purpose. If you haven't yet read the full policy that explains what AI use is allowed and what is not, do that first, then come back here.

Due Tuesday, June 9, 2026

This is a contract between you and your future patients. The habits you build in this course are the habits you will carry into nursing, EMT, paramedic, dental hygiene, respiratory, surgical tech, or mortuary work. Doing your own thinking now is how you build the recall that keeps people safe later.

Read each commitment below. By signing, you agree to all of them for the duration of BIO 304.

My commitments

For the duration of BIO 304, I will:

  1. Do my own thinking on every graded assignment

Lab workbook drawings, synthesis answers, discussion posts and replies, clinical portfolio entries, and quiz answers will be produced by me, from my own reading, viewing, and reasoning.

  2. Use AI only after I have done my own work

If I use AI at all, it will be to clarify a concept I'm stuck on, quiz myself, organize my own thinking, or check my reasoning after I have already produced my work. I will not use AI to generate the work itself.

  3. Hand-label my lab workbooks

I understand that lab workbooks must be hand-drawn and hand-labeled. A digital workbook with no handwriting and no revision history will be treated as AI-generated by default, and I accept that consequence.

  4. Write discussions in my own words

Initial discussion posts and replies will be in my own voice, citing what I have actually read or observed. I will not paste AI-generated text into a discussion thread.

  5. Not use AI during a proctored quiz

I understand that Honorlock-proctored quizzes treat any AI use as a violation automatically. I will not have an AI assistant open in another tab, on another device, or in any other form during a quiz.

  6. Tell my instructor when I'm stuck instead of outsourcing

When something is hard, the move is to ask Dr. Rennie in the Virtual Office Hours forum or in office hours, not to hand the work to an AI. I will use the channels in the syllabus.

If I break this contract

  • First instance: zero on the assignment plus a documented conversation with Dr. Rennie.
  • Second instance: the case is referred to the dean of students under ARC student conduct procedures.
  • Honorlock-detected quiz violations follow Honorlock's escalation regardless of severity and are reported to ARC.
  • I understand that these consequences exist to protect the integrity of my certification and the safety of the patients I will eventually care for.
